Protein Boost: Vegan Green Protein Shake & Boku Mochacchino

I'm a bit picky about my protein powder supplements.  I don't like fillers.  I don't like extra sugars in things, and i prefer vegan supplements.  While hemp seeds themselves are easy to use, the powdered hemp i've used in smoothies seems to impart a really strong flavor into my shakes that i don't always find palatable.  I do love my brown rice protein powder, but on it's own with water it's just to chalky and blah.  I've found that the secret to a successful protein smoothie really lies in the FROZEN banana.  Yup.  FROZEN banana....emphasis on FROZEN.  Keep bananas until they are ripe and a little spotty.  Peel them, tear them into chunks, then freeze them.  These frozen bananas not only make your drink super chilly-chill but really thicken it up and make it creamy, sweet, and delicious!  The brown rice protein powder that i like is made by BOKU.

Like all protein powders it has a little bit of chalkiness and will alter the taste of whatever you put it in, however i've come up with an easy smoothie that it works fabulously in and makes such a yummy way to either start your day after a workout, or supplement in later.  If you'd rather not have as much protein as this provides (26 plus grams), you can cut the recipe in half and have it as an in between meal snack.  There are two ways to do your Boku Smoothie....with or without your morning cup o' joe included.  I like it both ways.

Green Boku Protein shake:

3 Tbsp Boku Protein Powder
2 tsp Vita-Mineral Greens Powder
1 FROZEN banana (go peel, cut, and freeze your bananas now for tomorrow...it doesn't taste the same without the banana frozen.)
a few dashes cinnamon (i don't measure, but i shake it about 8 times)
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (i like almond breeze refrigerated almond milk)
3 ice cubes
optionally you can add in one fistful of spinach... this does not alter the flavor, just helps you get some greens into your day....i highly recommend!

blend all ingredients in a high powered blender (thin with a small amount of water or almond milk if you need) and ENJOY!

Cup O' Joe or Mochacchino Protein Shake

3 Tbsp Boku Protein Powder
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 FROZEN banana
1 serving of instant coffee (i use decaf because i FREAK OUT when i have caffeine.  I just like the flavor)
make it a mocha shake by adding 1 scoop of Chocolate Amazing Grass Superfoods supplement
3 ice cubes
optional dashes of cinnamon
optional sweetener of choice (agave, stevia, etc)

again blend it up and slurp it up!

Boku is not available at most stores...or any that i've ever seen, so you'll need to go HERE if you want to get it.  If you have a favorite protein powder you can use it in place of Boku, but no promises on how the taste will come out!
