DIY Coffee Bean Infused Coconut Body Oil

Here is one of my all time favorite Body Brews that is super easy to make and will leave your home and skin smelling amazing. This body oil is made with 2 simple ingredients: organic caffeinated coffee beans and organic coconut oil.  Think of the body brew as "Maui Babe" meets Holistic Healing Body Oil.

Because caffeine constricts blood vessels it's often added to skin-care products to help reduce cellulite, promote a tighter tummy, and reduce under-eye puffiness. Along with the cooling effects of coconut oil you have the perfect blend of anti-inflammatory body care that Ayurvedically balances Pitta Dosha (aka heat) and helps re-invigorate the body and mind.  Here's the exact extraction and DIY body brew making process. It's such a great home-made gift, and it's what i'm using right now to remove makeup and wash my face with (coconut also has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal effects).

What you'll need:

One jar of organic coconut oil
1/4 to 1/3 cup of organic coffee beans
Mesh strainer, glass bowl, funnel.

Directions:

Melt the coconut oil in a pot over low heat.  Add coffee beans and simmer an hour or two over the lowest heat.  Strain through a mesh strainer into a glass bowl to cool.  Once cool, funnel back into the original jar and remove any bean fragments.  Lid and enjoy liberally massaged into your body daily.

Goal Gut Check

Do you set monthly goals? I've always been a list maker. There is just something so gratifying about crossing things off a list, but lists are more about little daily accomplishments rather than big goals or big changes.
What if you set just 4 or 5 smaller goals a month or one big PUSH goal?
What if you sat your duff on a meditation pillow, started visualing what it is you want by month end, how it would make you feel, the changes that arrived, how you feel achieving your goal, and from there reverse engineer what your daily habits and actions had to be to get you there?
What if you put pen to paper and wrote down all you visualized, your goal, your actions steps weekly and daily, and a deadline you wanted to reach them by?
Do you think anything would change? I do.
Here's what i do monthly now that has helped me continue to move my life forward and reach new goals. It's also how i had time for a second short workout today and this five minute cafe style lunch. It's all in planning....
1. get clear on your monthly goals or PUSH goals (don't overwhelm yourself - one big goal is perfect - it will give you smaller goals to reach weekly)
2. reverse engineer that goal - what are the actions and habits of a person who achieves this goal, what changes do you have to make on a daily and weekly basis to get there?
3. find a tracking/measureing method and accountability partner - who will hold you accountable? how will you determine if you are making progress in the amount of time you visualized? What are the daily tasks and weekly tasks that must be crossed off your list. Make the list that has these tasks listed so you can easily cross them off.
4. schedule it - unless you create time for the new things you're adding in, and make sacrificing with what you're already doing then you'll likely find that you won't have enough hours in the day to get it done. Bottom line is we all have the same 24 hours in the day and as a very well respected entrepreneuer once said, "You're awake for 18 hours, you sleep for 6. If you think you need more sleep than that, just learn to sleep faster."
5. 10 X it. By nature we tend to procrastinate on the things we don't want to do, but we are also a reward driven society. So while you may experience some 'feet dragging' on the front end, once you start seeing progress you'll have Big Mo (momentum) behind you to keep you plugging forward. If you do everything with the attitude of 'i'm going to do it at 10X' (10 x more of this, 10 x more of that, 10 x the focus, 10 x the commitment, 10 x the consistency), you'll see results a lot faster. (Get the book The 10X Rule by Grand Cardone.)

Because my current goal is to be in stellar shape by the time i'm 40 (42 days from today) and because summer is just another 30 days or so behind that, you better believe i'm 10X-ing LIFE right now. Workouts 10X Nutrition 10X Personal Developement 10 X Leadership 10 X Blogging 10 X :)

The new Brazilian Butt lift workouts just released on M*Fit on Demand / BOD and i'm ALL ABOUT THEM! I figure if Leandro trains the VS models how to get their rears 'high and tight' then my 'low and loose' back-side can have a serious renovation. Plus you can access all these new BBL Carnival workout totally FREE with my CLUB MEMBERSHIP for the next 30 days and it's only $2.99/week after that if you keep it, so really there isn't any excuse except the excuse that you actually LIKE to have something to complain about.

Finding Balance with Ayurveda

Do you find that when traveling you tend to get bloated or perhaps become less (eh-hem) 'regular' ?  Well you're not alone and there is REALLY sound reason why this happens, and it's all explained in the ancient teachings of Ayurveda (the oldest form of medicine still practiced in the world today and where Traditional Chinese Medicine got it's roots from).  Ayurveda is traditional Indian medicine and works with the aspects of diet, herbs and lifestyle on correcting and maintaining balance in our delicate and ever-changing bodies.

Personally, travel sends my body into a whirlwind.  Especially if i'm going by plane i'm bound to be bloated most my trip and feeling less than grounded even once i land.  However, when i get home i can get rebalanced and back to my slimer natural state in under 48 hours just by practicing Ayurvedic techniques and correcting my diet.

According to Ayurveda travel and movement creates Vata which is a combination of air & space. It totally makes sense: If you're flying 35K ft in the air you'll naturally encounter the elements of air and space which then become more prevalent in your body. That's why when most people travel they become less regular and bloated.  Air is drying and space is, well spacious, and can hold a lot of air.

I have a whole series on Ayurveda on my you tube to learn more.  There are 7 videos in the series.

Secrets to Success + Goal Setting Tips

In the past couple years of doing intensive personal development work while opening my coaching business i've learned a thing or two on actualizing goals.  Many of you may have heard of the SMART goal setting system, or have a system you already follow, but i would challenge you to consider these things as well and to get really SERIOUS on not just setting goals, but WRITING DOWN your goals too.  They should be reviewed often to make sure you are on the right path.  Evaluating your progress allows you to fine tune where you are at, what's working and what isn't, and what action steps you must continually take to get results.  Often we find ourselves doing 'busy work' that doesn't truly help us.  Here are a few tips I learned from Author and Success Speaker Darren Hardy.

1. Think Big AND Decide to be successful - What is the one HAIRY SCARY goal, or that one thing that is always weighing on your heart?  What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail at it.

2. Visualize it and identify your passion - What if you had every resource available to make it happen?  How would it look?  WHY are you so passionate about this?  What would change?

3. WRITE IT DOWN and design your best year ever - most goals are not actualized because simply they were never written down.  You can use the resource linked in below or just write yourself a letter.  Simply date it out 6 weeks from now, or 3 or 6 months from today and write it today AS IF you are reading it at that time.  So if your goal is to lose 10 lbs in 2 months you would date the letter 2 months from today and it would read how you FEEL at 10 lbs lighter having achieved you goal and REFLECT and celebrate all the changes you made over the past two months, all the challenges and resistance, and how you overcame it.  This in essence will help you REVERSE ENGINEER your goals, so you see exactly the steps you have to take daily, as well as the resistance you'll meet and how you'll trouble shoot it.

4. Stay Positive and Position yourself for success - focus on what you're moving towards and not away from.   Essentially you will expect and create what you think about.  Read, watch, listen to, and surround yourself with those who will support your efforts and success.   It's said you are the sum of the 5 people you surround yourself with most.  Does that support your dreams or scare you?

5. State your goals in the "i am" rather than "i want" and start modeling success-  Ever hear the saying 'success leaves clues'?  Find a mentor or someone successful you respect and take clues from their actions.  Model your actions and language after theirs.  Speaking in the 'i am' declares your goal-statements to be true therefore encouraging your actions to support your goals.

6. Get Fit - "Your mind cannot achieve what your body cannot perform."  - Darren Hardy.  It's true.  exercise is the master of stress release, centering, and building physical and emotional strength.  A truly healthy and fit inside and outside will allow you to have more clarity and energy to put into your goals and dreams and will give you the confidence to do whatever you want and take the world by storm.  Click HERE to select the right fitness and meal plan program to reach your goals.

7.  Make a difference - What do you want your legacy to be?  YOU have the power to make a profound difference in this world and in someone's life.  There is a saying, " To the world you may be ONE person, but to ONE person, you may mean the world."  Apply to be a Sol Warriors Coach and start supporting and helping others as you continue to reach your personal wellness and fitness goals.

Consider using Darren Hardy's GOAL DESIGNING WORKSHEET from one of my favorite books, The Compound Effect.  You should probably buy the book and start reading it too.  :)

How To Select A Good Coconut & Coconut Water

With all of my travel i've had to learn how to select the perfect coconut.

1. If you're shopping for a whole coconut, select the ones that looks like little white huts (thai coconut)
2. Flip it over and look for a flat, smooth white bottom.  Opt for one with minimal or no cracks.
3. Use a cocojack to crack it open, or a square cleaver.  Watch Here.
4. Pour water out into a bowl or pitcher, scrape out the soft jelly meat and enjoy.
5. If the water or meat is purple, you have a bad coconut.

If you are shopping for coconut water make sure to look at the carton ingredients, as soom have added sugars.  I like harmless harvest the best, however i have seen some stocked on the shelves that are purple.  Select only clear coconut water, avoid purple hued water.  If you are buying from a carton you can't see in, look at the label and make sure there is no fructose added.

Once you have your coconut open, try this SUPERFOOD SMOOTHIE RECIPE:

+water from one thai coconut
+meat from one thai coconut
+big fistfull of organic spinach
+a few ice cubes

BLEND, POUR, AND ENJOY!!!

Summer Slimdown & Get Back On Track Plan

The days are getting longer, lighter, and warmer.  Spring has sprung, and the curiosities of summer are starting their whisper.  My spring whisperings lately have become a loud hollering - a bit of a reminder that 4 months sans movement means i've lost strength, tone, endurance, and my bikini may be getting swallowed up by the rest of me if i don't get into Go Mode now.  ;)

My back is healing (I'm 2 months post op), and i've started back up with 25 minutes to fit  along with butt lifting and shaping moves from Bootie Camp.  I'm eating per my Lean 21 system, kicking it off with the 3 day Slim Down as i need to squeeze my sizable white tuckus into some skin-tight slap-tastic swimwear this weekend in Palm Springs.  Side Note - no complaints about that.  Gimme some 90 degree days, great friends, a tube of sunscreen, a cocktail or for me a Mocktail (cuz I'm working on my waistline and we all know that alcohol makes you, well….curvy) and I'll make the damn swimsuit fit.  Check out my linked MOCKTAIL recipe or try the easy No-Cal Refresher Mocktail Recipe Below.

Here are 6 simple ways to get back on track and into your best beach body this Spring.

*The kicker is you HAVE TO START NOW to get your Summertime results.  Follow each of these steps and i absolutely guarantee you will look your best by Summer.  GUARANTEED.

1.  Join one of my summer slim down programs:  I'm hosting 3 incredible programs all with a full 30 day money-back guarantee.  You know what that means?  I am beyond confident that you will get the results you want with Bootie Camp, Lean 21, or my 30/90 Challenge.

2. Start drinking Superfood Shakeology once a day to boost your energy, help you find your desired shape, lift your spirits, and regulate digestion.  Shakeology is a wellness supplement comprised of the highest quality superfoods like maca and ashwagandha to boost energy, chlorella and spirulina to detoxify, tulsi to boost your spirits, moringa the incredible superfood with more potassium than bananas and more vitamin A than carrots, probiotics & digestive enzymes to regulate your digestion and de-bloat you, and plant based proteins rich in amino acids.  It's gluten free, soy free, and the vegan flavors are also lactose free.  It is by far the best tasting superfood supplement i've found and it seamlessly blends into shakes and smoothies without having to come up with a ton of recipes.  One scoop has all of your superfood nutrient needs.  No need to buy a bunch of powers, products, herbs or supplements anymore.  It's an all in one wellness formula and it tastes great on its own or mixed with a little fruit or hemp milk / almond milk.

3.  Join my private wellness community, food journal, and find accountability partners.  Your success is reliant upon your commitment to your program.  Your commitment is reliant on having a supportive personal coach, a space of accountability, and a network of others sharing their experience and health journey with you.  Sign up at the link above for a free member enrollment with me and follow my Facebook coaching page for daily tips, recipes, and inspirations.

4.  Get smart about your MACROS and portions. Macro nutrient ratio and proper portions is an incredibly important part of your weight loss success, losing the bloat, and fine tuning your body to get to the shape you desire.  I'm sure you're wondering - 'how do I know how much protein to fat to carb I should be having?  Can I eat fruit, how much, or will it make me gain weight?  What should i eat at night?  Should i eat a grain-free diet?'  Lean 21 will teach you exactly how to redesign your body by using a non deprevating clean eating system focused on whole foods, portion awareness, superfoods, and macros.  You do not have to give up what you love in order for this system to work. You simply need to use the guide, enjoy your treats in the amounts listed, and your body will transform in just 21 days.  Guaranteed.  My jaw hits the floor every time my clients send me their before/after photos.

5.  Switch up your workouts.  Your body gets bored with routine.  Try just 25-30 minutes of HIIT training daily instead of long endurance workouts.  That's all you need.  Instead of putting in an hour at the gym and losing time in travel put in a SOLID high energy 25-30 minutes of work.  Research shows that 30 min of HIIT training is more effective than a longer 60 minute.  Not sure what exercises to do?   Check out the 25 minutes to fit program.  This is the program that gave me my killer results in just 60 days.

6. Sign up for a FREE Juice & Superfood Smoothie Ebook.  Simply fill out my free member link then contact me here and tell me about YOU.  What's your lifestyle like?  Share with me your personal health and fitness challenges and goals.  Make sure to title the Email FREE EBOOK so i can send it off to you complimentary.

6 Ways to Create Healthy Habits Without Restrictions

No worries if you missed the last 5 day clean eating challenge.  My next challenge starts in just over a week's time (Oct 21, 2013).  Just enough time for you to use up all the food you already purchased at the store, and start to get more mindful about what you are putting into your grocery cart, your body, and build stellar habits before the holidays hit.  Most people gain an average of 5 lbs around the holidays, so i can't think of a better time to get your best habits in check.  More info at the bottom of this post along with a pumpkin pie smoothie recipe.

6 Ways To Create Healthy Habits,
Not Restrictions

We all struggle with our habits, addictive patterns, and suboptimal choices.  I can openly say i struggle just as much as the next person.  I'm human.  I like things that aren't good for me.  I do things that aren't good for me.  In growing tired of beating myself up over my sour habitual tendencies, i discovered a few techniques that helped me pave the way to a more guiltless and enjoyably balanced life.

i recently wrote this post for Beaming.  I think it's something we can all resonate with and the tips are easy, maybe even effortless to embrace.

Before you read on, know that it takes about a month to change your habits, so first and foremost be patient with yourself. Instead of focusing on breaking your lackluster habits right now, try out a couple of theses techniques that allow for a more gradual shift.  It might just happen that you lose your bad habits without even trying.

1. Recognize that true health starts from within.

How many times have you gone on a crash diet, cleanse, or gave up alcohol, chocolate, sugar (even fruit GASP), or did something crazy like ate all meat and fat because you were told it was going to help you lose a little bit of weight quick?  Did it?  And if it did, did it stay off?  If you want to fit into your skinny jeans longterm, you need to start respecting that your physique is a reflection of your internal health and your DAILY habits.  It’s not until you truly respect health from within (and correct your patterns and diet to reflect this), that your outsides will naturally shift into place.

2. Let go of Perfection & Be Compassionate to Self.

Dismiss the idea that you have to do everything right 100% of the time....even 90% of the time.  Simply do your best to be your best self.  You know what makes you feel good and you know what doesn’t.  Choose that which makes you feel good.  In the event you slip up, forgive yourself.  It doesn’t help one bit to beat yourself up or hold onto guilt for your less than optimal choices.  Depreciating and criticizing oneself in this way only contributes to stress and leads you deeper into a downward spiral.  Rather, dust yourself off and put it behind you.  If it was a food choice that left you less than proud, acknowledge that you make over 200 food choices in a day, and make your next one your best.

3. Crowd Out the Bad with the Good.

This is the best tip I’ve got for you, and really the only one you need.  The more you put the good stuff in, the less room there is for the bad.  Fill up your calendar with friendly dates for a green juice or tea, hikes and yoga classes, and fill up your grocery cart with seasonal produce and sweet fresh fruits, herbal teas, and sparkling water and limes.  The less room you have for junk, the less will go in.

4. Meditate

I know you don’t have time for meditation, neither do I.  That 10 minutes of your day could be spent on facebook, checking the sports page, or taking a series of flattering self portraits or photos of your dog to share on instagram.  I know.  I do it.  There are a lot of things you could do with 10 minutes of your day, but most likely none as important or transforming as the 10 you sit your duff down on a meditation pillow, close your eyes, and simply tune out to tune in.  I’m not the first to say “those that are too busy for meditation are the ones that need it most”.  If you are new to meditation check out deepak chopras guided meditations.

5. Journal and become aware of your triggers.

Food Journaling is one of the easiest ways to get familiar with your true patterns.  When i first started journaling it really opened my eyes to how often i put something in my mouth, be it out of boredom, because i was socializing, or simply because i was cooking.  It also made me privy to some pretty indicative patterns in my life (ie: if i drink wine i’ll eat everything in sight, if i skip breakfast or lunch i start munching at 3 and don’t stop til 9, if i don’t get enough sleep i’ll crave and over-eat sweets.)  These were huge for me, and helped me adjust my daily patterns so i could be my best self.  If you’ve never food journaled, all you need to do is keep a little notepad with you and write down what you eat and when you are eating it, as well as any other notes around feelings such as hunger, light headedness, fatigued, cravings, etc.  After a few days you’ll be able to look back at patterns to see where you can make some adjustments.

6. Knowledge is power, and so is your support system.

Surround yourself with others who are striving for similar goals.  Find ‘meet up’ groups on yahoo, workshops by experts at colleges, natural health schools, and yoga studios.  Create a private group on facebook with a group of friends near or far that have similar health interests to start sharing articles and inspirations.  Rent films and buy books that will help inspire you and teach you the why’s behind the shifts you’re making so you can continue to educate those around you.  Consider inviting your friends and family to watch these films with you.  great films to check out:  Food Matters, Food Inc, Hungry for Change.  Great Books:  Super Cleanse, Diet for a New America, Omnivore’s Dilemma, The Skinny Bitch.  AND JOIN MY 5 DAY CLEAN EATING CHALLENGE GROUP!

Be Your Best Self

1.  Honor your body.

With affirmations, mantras, healthy actions, and recipes:

  • Clean up your diet and eat only high vibration foods that nuture your best self.
  • Bathe yourself in affirmations and soak in compliments when they are given.
  • Move your body.  Exercise.  Play.  Increase your heart-rate.  Dance like no ones watching.
Make at least two of these recipes this week:

1/2 cup gluten free oats (bob's red mill)
1/4 cup raw cashews
approximately 4 large pitted medjool dates.
cinnamon and hempseeds

Toss the oats, cashews, and a few dashes of cinnamon in the food processor and whizz it down to the consistency of coarse sand.  Add the dates a few at a time and whizz again until you get a somewhat sticky looking sand.  Cobbler complete!

Chop fruit into a bowl, (optionally/pictured) add a few tbsp's of fresh hemp seeds (awesome protein/omega boost) and top with a few spoonfuls of crumble.

1 whole coconut (all the water and 1/2 the meat)one slice of ripe avocado (about 1/8 an avo)2 giant handfuls of baby spinach optional 1/2 scoop of sun warrior vanilla warrior blend a couple ice cubes

trio of salads.  3 recipes, click here

pure coconut water, papaya, strawberries, blended

2 large rainbow chard leaves, spine trimmed flat (wrapper)
fillings:
raw sprouted hummus (majestic makes a great one: www.majesticgarlic.com
2 handfuls of mixed sprout salad (one handful per wrap)
2 small handfuls of mustard greens
8 very thin slices of red bell pepper (4 for each wrap)
any additional veggies.

Lay our the chard and slather with hummus end to tip.  Like a burrito fill with veggies.  Roll from widest end to tip.  Seal with hummus.

1/2 a medium cantelope chopped (remove seeds and skin)
Water from one large coconut (1 1/2 to 2 cups coco water)
Generous Scoop of coconut flesh (a few tbsp, about 1/4 of the flesh)

Blend well and enjoy.  Makes 3 martinis.

2.  Let go of the things that no longer serve you (and exaggerate and embrace that which does)

It is hard.  I know.  We're human.  We are imperfect.  We have patterns, behaviors, habits, we fall in love with people with shouldn't, we make stupid choices, we 'hold on...and hold on tightly', we have ideals, and are self critical.  We are who we are.  Through a meditation practice and daily journaling, you may find you begin to release these less than serving or sub optimal habits/patterns/thoughts/people.

Try this mantra meditation:

Visualize yourself in front of a big heavy wooden door.  Behind the door is only darkness. Mindfully close the door and embrace a sense of closure and release.  Wipe your hands clean.  Turn to the next door and see how easy and light it is to open.  As it opens allow the bright daylight that lies beyond it to flood in over you.  Walk through the door and recite. "I close the door of my past, wipe my hands clean, and walk into the light of my true path."  or more simply:  "I release my past and walk my enlightened path."

Journal.  Daily.  Each day write down 1 affirmation or mantra, 1 action you are working on, and 1 thing you are grateful for.  Watch your self love and worth bloom.

3.  Breathe

Are your breaths short and high up in your chest, or are they long, heavy, and fluid down to your belly.  Breath now.  Sit tall in your seat and close your eyes.  Hear your breath.  Inhale for a slow count of four.  Feel the breath move into your belly, your lungs, you lower, middle, and upper back, and even feel your collarbones lift and separate.  Enjoy the sensation of fullness.  Exhale for a slow count of four.   Feel the navel gently tug back as the breath moves up to encompass your heart and wash over your mind.  Sense what it's like to be empty of breath, then breath in again.  Take at least 10 rounds of breath.  Just listening and feeling the breath move through your body.

4.  Be present.....and okay with it.

We love to avoid things.  It's just seems easier to.  It seems easier not to deal with situations but rather tuck them away and worry about them later.  Unfortunately this often brings us back to #2 (letting go of that which does not serve us).  Be present with where you are and who you are with.  Notice your mind if it begins to wander.  Gently remind it to return to the here and now.  Meditation and breath-work will help keep you present, as will making the choice to simply be present and continually reminding yourself.  Be present with your feelings, emotions, and be willing to hold space for others.  Simply open your ears, your heart, look them in the eyes, and listen without the need to speak.  BTWs this requires you to put your iphone down.

5.  You can achieve more than you think.

Actually, you can achieve more than you ever dreamt, but there is one caveot:

YOU MUST BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND WHOLE-HEARTEDLY PUT YOUR ENERGY AND EFFORTS INTO THAT WHICH YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE GROW.

Start today.  Big things have small beginnings.  Look at what you want to create, what are some of the preliminary steps you'll need to get there?  Begin now.  Your future is created by what you do today, not tomorrow.  There is no time like the now.
